Are Jazz Piano Lessons for You?
My son is not interested in jazz piano lessons. Yes, I’m sure. First, there was his misery during a stint in the college jazz band. Second, he’s an engineer, and if there is one thing engineers don’t like, it’s “flying by the seat of their pants.” Imagination should be confined to scientific possibilities, not music. What I’m getting at is that if you don’t like to have your mind and music wandering into new areas or if you prefer playing precisely what’s written on the sheet music, jazz piano may not be for you. On the other hand, do you tap your foot incessantly; have music running through your mind all day long; enjoy experimenting with different music combinations? You might love jazz piano lessons.
