Are homeowners inspections normal?

We have lived in nearly half a dozen states and owned a home in each one that we lived in.  This has entailed us having to meet with a lot of insurance agents with each move.  I was starting to feel like I was an expert on insurance matters and could breeze through that part of the move with no problem.  This time when I called the office to transfer my automobile and homeowners insurance florida the person on the phone said I had to set up an appointment for the agent to visit our home and see the car.  Is this something unique to Florida or do other agents do this?
