The Pros and Cons of Portable Scanner
We all know that there are lots of portable scanners out there, ranging from the most sophisticated and most expensive down to the very basic and cheapest scanners. So if you are thinking if buying a portable scanner is a good investment, well you should first consider these pros and cons of portable scanners. Then you can decide whether you should spend your hard earned dollars on them.
For the pros, let me start by telling you that portable scanners are very handy. Yes, I know you know this already so let me elaborate. When I say they are very handy, it means that they are lightweight and compact enough for any travelling businessman. Say you are going on a trade show, conference or exhibit, the portable scanner will allow you to scan all your collected business cards, fliers and other printed materials. There is no need therefore to collect them all and take them back with you. And the portable scanner will not be an additional weight and space item consuming on your baggage. If this is what you need a portable scanner for, then it is worth your money.
Second, a portable scanner will allow you to organize important documents, such as business cards and other files. If this is your main concern, especially about organizing your hundred or so business cards, then it is a good buy. Instead of simply buying the usual business card scanner, it is better to buy a scanner that is also capable of scanning and organizing your other files.
Third, if you need to scan files, photos and other data immediately but do not usually have available power supply or power outlets, then a portable scanner is the answer to your problem. This is because they do not need power supply outlets. All you have to do is to connect it via USB for power.
Now going to the cons, first, the sheetfed portable scanners can only scan one page at a time and only lose sheets. This means that in terms of functionality, they are very limited. You cannot scan portions of books or other items that are bound together. And since they scan one page at a time, they are also not that fast if you will scan hundreds of pages. Second, the want types, although they can scan books and other bounded materials, do not offer the same quality of scanned image.
Basically these are the pros and cons of portable scanners, now depending on what you need, you can now decide whether you should buy one or not.
