Fish Oil
Growing up, I never had fresh fish. I didn’t even realize that people ate fresh fish. I remember only fried fish. Yes, I’m from the South, so we deep fry a whole bunch of stuff, but then again, Long John Silvers is pretty popular all around the whole country. Anyway, I remember eating fried fish from LJS (love those crumbs), Captain D’s, and a variety of local fish camps. My mom also bought frozen fish, which she thawed and promptly coated with batter en route to the family deep fryer (yes, you read that correctly). Her fried fish was greasy, crispy guilty pleasure, but the fish recipe that sticks out in my mind is her fried canned salmon. Open a can, make a patty, cover it in cornmeal, throw it in a frying pan and . . . you get a nasty fried fish patty that make me reject salmon of any kind to this very day.
