The Wedding Speech Changed the Whole Marriage Proposal
The other day I was reading a Victorian novel and became totally caught up in the drama of the occasion. The father of the bride had to give away his daughter to a man he didn’t approve of to pay off some of the accumulated family debt. The daughter loved her father and was willing to go through with the marriage to please him and help out the family. In the wedding speech, the father changes his mind and refuses to go on with the wedding. The story had me shedding salty tears as I sympathized with this family’s difficult life choices. I’m so glad that I don’t live back there.
