More Basement Door Danger: Beware
A gunman held a woman hostage in her home Tuesday morning as he assaulted and robbed her. He then tied her hands to a headboard and left.
The woman, who has not been identified, managed to get help a few hours later by typing a message to her boyfriend using her toes.
Officers found her still tied to the head board at 5:21 a.m., Atlanta police spokeswoman Ms. Kim Jones said.
The woman was not seriously injured physically and recounted to investigators what happened.
She didn’t hear the intruder enter into her home, nor when he walked into her bedroom. She didn’t know he was there until he woke her at 12:45 a.m.
Police believe the man entered through a basement door left open.
The man held her for an hour at gunpoint as he searched her home, rifling through her belongings.
At some point the man hit the woman in the forehead with his handgun, cutting her.
He also rubbed his hands over the private areas of her body, but stopped short at raping her.
